  4. To each their own, Most those artists have been recycled by Insomniac so much now, it's a good time to invest in newer talent.

  11. Skream & Benga announced on their 2012 US tour that they would bring UK Bass acts with them. I think the Dubstep stage this year without a question will have unfamiliar names for most. I cant see Skream & Benga not stopping at EDC during their tour... Least thats what Im hoping for. Orjan Nilsen? Hope that pulls through, that would be dope. Glad to see the blog back mate, any info I come across ill share. 4 more months

    http://www.reddit.com/r/electricdaisycarnival/comments/r5m50/flux_pavillion_confirmed/

    ReplyDelete
  46. I agree that he doesn't deserve headliner status for EDC, but reality is he's blown up fast as Skrillex and Deadmau5 (look at where they're billed at every festival) and with his song reaching mainstream status and having one of the largest crowds for his set last year, he's at the top of the world right now. There's only a few djs that can be above him billing wise, and those djs aren't going to be at EDC this year so that leaves him to fill that slot. We already seen him headline Nocturnal's first day. Unlike European festivals, American edm festivals' headliners cater to what's popular, as we have seen with past Insomniac events and UMF with billing Fatboy slim under Avicii this year. It only makes sense to put the hottest name in dance music as the third headliner for EDC this year. To further prove that he's the most possible candidate for the top spot, here's some well known festivals he's billed on top of other famous djs. Hell, I wouldn't doubt if Skrilley plays mainstage this year as well.
    Coachella 2012
    Creamfields 2012
    Ultramusicfestival 2012
    Dance Valley 2011.

He hasn't been at one of their massives since EDC 2010, right? Not a huge deadmau5 fan myself so I don't really mind but I was just wondering why it's been so long since he's been booked

  57. I wonder how this Rotella controversy will affect when the lineup/headliners are released. Last month he tweeted that EDC headliners would be released mid-March. Since the scandal, he's been completely off the grid on Twitter so obviously he has bigger things on his mind.

  59. read that article too, it was about American festivals with UMF being the main target. Either way though, like someone said before, that dude can sellout a venue here in LA 5 days straight. I don't blame him for rather doing that than a festival.
By the way, with the confirmed artists so far, it looks like we're going to have a lot of repeats. That's the downside to these festivals getting big, they eventually start running out of new names to book and have to repeat them a lot since getting new small names won't be a big of a draw. When it's all said and done, no matter how many repeats, most will still think it's "epic" lol

  70. "Swedish House Mafia will once again be headlining Sunday"
"he "thinks" Tiesto is headlining Friday again"

I'm sorry not to be rude or to call you a liar but I highly doubt insomniac is gonna book the same people as headliners as last year. That would be an incredibly dumb move on their part. I think your promoter friend is pulling your leg...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Haha by all means! I didn't post that without knowing I'd get my ass handed to me from many here. I applaud you for being polite in doing so ;)

I think by booking SHM again, it doesn't matter if they book the "same" headliners. Most speculation didn't think SHM would come again with how big they continue to get. When you have a festival that has only one true "headliner" spot each day, you only really have a small handful of names to choose from. Tiesto, AVB, Guetta, SHM, deadmau5 - after that you're probably going to raise eyebrows. Think about it - respect for the old school aside - how many of us would be pissed if Fatboy Slim was one of three headliners?

I agree with DLB that Avicii warrants headliner status now, especially given that he's costing in excess of $100k these days (a competing promoter stole him away from my friend by giving him OVER $150k to play in an upcoming gig). You're able to book a somewhat questionable headliner like that by bookending him with two superstar acts that no one will ever complain about, including landing SHM again which is beginning to become EDC's signature and was thought to be a bit of a feat again this year. Logically, it makes perfect sense to me.

Even without that logic, I don't think it's unheard of for them to book 2/3 of the same headliners when it's widely known that Insomniac (both because of necessity and financial reasons) recycles acts again and again. I think most are already pretty surprised they're branching out with Hardstyle and, moreso for me, Techno.

He's definitely not pulling my leg so unless the agent is feeding him misinformation (which he thinks is 95% unlikely), I'd stake my reputation on it. ..... My reputation as an anonymous commenter on an EDC Predictions blog hahahaha. Believe what you want! If I were in your shoes I'd certainly be taking this with a massive grain of salt, if not completely disregarding it :)

  72. Wolfgang Gartner, Dada Life, and Zedd all are playing starscape on june 9th... hopefully this doesn't mean they arnt coming to EDCVEGAS this year.

Also, if those are the headliners, I would be truly pissed. Please don't pull some rookiness like ULTRA and give Avicii the Main Main (Saturday) headlining spot.

    Tiesto SHM Armin.

    Or double bill headliners. Tiesto/Avicii, SHM/A&B, Armin/Kaskade.

    ReplyDelete
  73. You made some good points, but why SHM for a third year straight? it wouldn't be a bad choice, but you would think with the resources they now have, that they would go with a different name they never booked, mainly Fatboy just to make up for EDC 09. I'm going to take it with a grain of salt for now, im still hoping they are going to surprise us and atleast double book headliners. But then again, it is believable considering how many artists they are bringing back for the 3-4th year straight.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The thing is - I just feel like SHM isn't just another headliner, not right now. They're a draw that, in my mind, is unmatched right now (Daft Punk aside) and they don't cost an inordinate amount of money given their current popularity. It's not just that they're big, it's that they're exclusive. My friend has been trying to land them for two years, on and off, but they won't come to some city in Canada for one show, despite how we are (currently, although the city is trying hard to outlaw raves out so knock on wood) one of 2-3, if not THE EDM capital of the country. There was a huge push to get them for our inagural Elements Festival (24,000 people over two days, 3 arenas, 30 headliners - check it out, you'd be surprised how big the scene is up here) but even that wasn't big enough for them unless a dump truck full of money was backed up on their front lawn, well above their normal booking cost.

Which is why I feel Insomniac will book them every year if they can and use them as EDCLV's **signature** artist. SHM headlining the last day of the festival. The draw to get all of those California kids to skip an extra day of school. The draw that they can claim sets them apart from UMF.

Double billing headliners is something I would expect this year, especially when you have names like Avicii, Kaskade, and Afrojack all likely playing and all held in such high regard by the more fairweather/new fans of the scene that it would add to the 'wow' factor. I sincerely hope, though, that they forego paying Guetta six figures and spend that on something better.

  75. I'm starting to get a little frustrated that headliners still haven't been announced, ~2 weeks after they were slated to be. Maybe I'm just sensitive after last year's debacle but if I remember correctly, they released the three names right around (or even at) Coachella last year so they're right on schedule except the festival is three weeks earlier this year. I was anticipating phases but the only way that happens now is if they release headliners + phase one in a week or two, followed by a second phase early to mid May but even that is almost as bad as last year. Does anyone remember what Rotella specifically said when he talked about how the lineup would be released much earlier this year? I can't remember where I read that.

And Eric Prydz - please god.

  76. Dirtyphonics confirmed for the 10th via Facebook. Yes!

    ReplyDelete
  77. You may be right, those are valid points again. I did feel they had the biggest crowd and they are more exclusive (aside from Prydz) than other big artists touring. The only way they would get away with bringing 2/3 of the headliners is double booking and bringing 2 new names we wouldn't guess, my personal guess would be fatboy and prydz. I don't think they'll be like UMF and bring old school acts like Kraftwerk, Orbital, New Order etc. What if they just bring them individually though? Axwell one day, Ingrosso the next? Angello's show at the Palladium seems to be too close to EDC and from the past, I don't recall anyone who has been booked so close to be booked for edc, I could be wrong though? Just seems to be lazy booking to me if they did.

    ReplyDelete
  78. The headliners came out the weekend of Coachella. I think that's a perfect time to release them too since most the EDM artists are playing EDC a couple months later.

    ReplyDelete
  79. like i said before why did you take down the bloody beetroots?!?!?!?! THEY COULD STILL BE A EDC!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Literally anyone could be at edc, I base my predictions on certain things. As you can see, i'm not always right, they could still play I just don't see it being possible with their French gigs going on that weekend. That's just me though, we'll see.

  81. We will be having 7 separate stages this year. Each stage will be have a sponsored host. This year you can expect a techno stage all three days, a live stage,a hard-style stage and various other stages sponsored by the likes of Dim-Mak, Group Therapy, Superyou & Me, Size Matters, and a few other surprises. Be on the lookout for double billed headliners being released soon. Only 30% of three day passes are still available for purchase and are going fast on groovetickets.com.We still have a limited number of hotel packages available for EDC 2012, read about it here http://insomniac.com/newsDetails.php?news=196. See you in June!

    1. very good news that techno stages will be there all 3 days. 7 stages...this is looking to top umf by a lot. just release those damn headliners!

      Delete
    2. If this is really from Insomniac, then Steve Aoki, Above and Beyond, Laidback Luke, and Steve Angello have all been confirmed. Probably artists like Arty and Mat Zo will be at Group Therapy, and Thomas Gold and AN21 & Max Vangeli for Size Matters, not sure who would be at Dim Mak or Super You & Me.

      Delete
    3. Aoki already confirmed himself a while ago

  82. So that means those dome stages by the trance stage is going to be back?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Someone is trolling as Insomniac Events up above. Ain't cool dude.

    ReplyDelete
  84. There's really no reason to believe that is truly from Insomniac other than the fact that they're promoting the hotel packages, although that's probably a great indication and it sounds legitimate. Still, for them to come post previously unknown information on a blog somewhere... Has anyone found this info elsewhere?

I'm having a tough time sorting out how the setup would work. The sponsored stages would have to be shared over the 3 days. I also don't see there being enough live or hardstyle acts to fill an entire stage for three days long so I'm guessing they'd split the days, or even split from early on to later in the night.

    1 - Main
    2 - Techno
    3 - Live / Hardstyle / ?
    4 - Basspod
    5 - Size Matters / Super You & Me / Dim Mak
    6 - Group Therapy / ? / ?
    7 - Neon Garden?

    Thoughts, anyone and everyone?

  87. With an (imo) weak headlining of avicii skrillex and guetta at tomorrowland. This could be the year insomniac decides to go all out (like TL last year) and win that idma award.
A seven stage event with, particularly with one dedicated to anjuna, super, and dim mak, would certainly do that. With this I wouldn't even be pissed about avicii taking the mainliner saturday spot (well, maybe still a little).

    ReplyDelete
  88. The sponsored stages probably will be spread out throughout the weekend instead of having them all in one day, just like TL or Creamfields. Anyone else find it kind of dumb that they'll have a group therapy and Size Matters stage even though both hosts of those stages are having a show here in LA a few weeks prior? (that's if it's true) If the lineup gets released early, won't that affect ticket sales for the size matters show since most will wait. Also though, if they think it'll affect ticket sales it would make perfect sense if they do phases of the lineup, probably released the Size Matters and Group Therapy after those shows are over with?

  90. Double billed who I think will be considered the headliners. This sounds strange and i'm very hesitant on putting it because I know there's going to be a lot of opposition, but I believe Skrllex can very well be one of the 6 headliners...He's headlining above established bands like Incubus, he has the status to do it now. I don't think he's going to perform all those days at Banoo, Vegas isn't that far...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. no he doesnt and is no where near or will ever be considered a headliner at a major festival like edc. that would be disrespectful to the other real djs, insomniac wouldnt do that.

      Delete
    2. Are you kidding me? The guy just won 3 Grammies and when he was on a side stage at EDC last year he had a bigger crowd than A&B at the main stage. Don't think anyone else was able to do that.

      Delete
    3. The argument isn't if he's capable, it's if he will be considered a headliner on the poster. If he is one of the headliners, he'll be the first dubstep/brostep whatever you want to call it, artist to headline EDC. That's what a lot of people will have a hard time accepting.

      Delete
  91. Tomororow we get either a phase 1 or headliners, by the way do you have the link for Gaberiel and Dresden?

    ReplyDelete
  92. He is headling Bamboozle and SW4 in the UK above Prydz and he was very high on UMF's lineup, even getting mainstage. I don't agree with it but this guy is huge.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would not be surprised at all if Skrillex was one of the 6 over someone like Afrojack or Kaskade. He is headlining Tomorrowland and had a huge crowd last year even though he played at the same time as Guetta. He has a lot of haters but that's because of how popular he is. If he is there again this year, haters or not, he will have one of the biggest crowds again.

    2. sadly because he doesnt even dj and his productions are whatever bro step. just the new generation of kids follow him.

  93. Speaking of Prydz, he made a comment on twitter about being afraid to fly and when asked if he was going to be playing only UK shows this summer, he replied "no im not even in Europe this summer.." here's hoping that more evidence of a U.S. trip including EDC

  97. I wish they'd release a true phase one like Ezoo.

Also now a little less convinced about my insider info. What are the odds they would hold back announcing SHM until later?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Kind of disappointed phase one including a lot of repeats... only excited for the addition of Carl Cox finally.

I'm surprised I got 5/6 of the min headliners though, guess that insomniac comment was legit afterall.

    ReplyDelete
  99. If you compare this lineup to Ultra or tomorrowland... its better.
This years going to be the biggest and baddest ever. I have a feeling they'll get fatboy slim anyhow on top. this is just the top of the iceberg.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Well of course the phase 1 stuff is going to be repeats. The entire purpose of phase 1 is to bring in the mainstream clientele, so they stick you with the big names.

I'd say this start is off better then EZoo, that lineup is poop IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Also to keep in mind, that Insomniac hasn't officially released anything yet.....

this is an MTV reporter obviously picking out his/her artists to highlight. By the looks of it though, EDC is doing it MASSIVE this year, so I think by phase 2/3 everyone will be more than excited.

    ReplyDelete
  102. MTV reporter? The video clearly shows Pasquale annnouncing most of the lineup.

    ReplyDelete
  103. haha I didn't see the video. regardless. how can anyone complain about this initial lineup? rookies can go see a deadmau5/skrillex show on their next 100 city tour.

This will get beefed up with LL, Wolfgang Gartner, Hardwell, Dada life, dirty south, etc. +techno/hardstyle/more trance. dono what else you'll need.

Catch a BEP show before hand.

    2. mau5/skrillex are CLEARLY way more mainstream.
and i wasnt comparing mainstream vs. not mainstream
I was comparing overrated music vs. good music

    3. all hail THE DECIDER of good music vs overrated music. please tell me what to listen to some more, you are clearly the last and final word on good music.

      Delete
    4. Right because David Guetta and Tiesto aren't mainstream at all. Neither of them has ever made a cheesy-poppy-radio-friendly song.

People are disappointed because it's the same thing as last year and there isn't much variety. Duh we're going to get more names but this is fairly underwhelming so far.

      Delete
  104. Well last year had over 140+ acts, there's still over a hundred to be revealed. Crossing my fingers that they won't repeat acts throughout the weekend again..There's no need to have Afrojack or Dadalife playing the same set twice in one weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Just caught this, "With awe-inspiring pyrotechnics, art installations and a singular carnival culture, EDC has become the Super Bowl of the dance music world. Dance superstars will take to three main stages built on 1,000 acres of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway's infield."
    3 mainstages?

  107. Does Swedish House Mafia think they're too good or something? EDC arguably made them as big as they are. Their set in LA in 2010 blew them up and their set in LV last year was the most crowded of the whole weekend. Can't believe they'll play solo sets but not as the trio.

  114. There is def more names to be released, there's 139 (which coincides how many I predicted this year) but with 2 new stages spread out on 3 days, and each stage average about 6-7, thats around 35-42 artists left. We already know some djs, like Roger Sanchez are playing in vegas, so im sure he would be on the next phase.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Dave Clarke, Sebastian Leger, Jorn Van Deynhoven, Autoerotique are all confirmed but not included in the poster, there's still many names TBA

  122. Swedish House Mafia just announced that they "cannot not miss Tomorrowland"...I think this may mean they'll do the same for EDC. How can they miss it? Those have been 2 of the biggest gigs they've ever had. Maybe Insomniac is planning to announce one more crazy headliner for each day, like SHM, Skrillex, and one more. I think that may very well be the case.
